In order to have her work accepted in a male dominant society and to escape the stereotypical ideals that women only are capable of writing lighthearted romances in the 1800’s Mary Anne Evans took a male pen name.

Back to the quote, I think she describes the power and importance of music brilliantly. For me music has the ability to drastically change a mood, an opinion, even one’s life. As she says it, life is simple when you have music.
